Hong Kong/Singapore, 3 January 2023, PineBridge Investments (‘PineBridge’), a private, global asset manager focused on active, high-conviction investing, has named Omar Slim and Andy Suen Co-Heads of Asia ex-Japan Fixed Income, effective 3 January 2023. These leadership appointments reflect a deliberate and measured transition ahead of the retirement of industry veteran Arthur Lau, Co-Head of Emerging Markets and Head of Asia ex-Japan Fixed Income, in June 2023.
Mr. Slim and Mr. Suen have extensive industry experience of 20 years and 15 years respectively and have each been with PineBridge’s Asia ex-Japan fixed income team for approximately 10 years working alongside Mr. Lau as senior portfolio managers. Both Mr. Slim and Mr. Suen are deeply involved across all regional fixed income capabilities and actively engaged in the team’s investment management process and portfolio management decision-making. In their leadership roles, they will report to Steven Oh, Global Head of Credit and Fixed Income, based in Los Angeles.
PineBridge believes that successful fixed income investment is based on rigorous and disciplined fundamental research and applies a team-oriented approach on bottom-up security analysis combined with a top-down focus on macro and industry factors, which also leverages PineBridge’s global on-the-ground presence. To that end, Mr. Slim and Mr. Suen have contributed to the success of the PineBridge Asia ex-Japan fixed income franchise for the last decade, and their combined expertise positively positions the platform during an extended period of volatile and uncertain market conditions.
Steven Oh, Global Head of Credit and Fixed Income at PineBridge, said, “We take pride in our credit research process and our application of a systematic approach supported by a global network of local investment and credit professionals. We are fully confident that Omar and Andy, together with the Asia Fixed Income team, will continue to deliver and exceed our clients’ portfolio expectations.”
Kirk Sweeney, CEO, Asia Pacific at PineBridge, said, “As we frequently emphasize, one of our strengths is the depth and breadth of our professional resources and the disciplined long-term approach we take to prepare our senior investment professionals to move into leadership positions at the appropriate time. I am confident that our regional fixed income capabilities will continue to flourish under Andy and Omar’s leadership.”
Omar Slim joined PineBridge in 2013 and is Managing Director, Co-Head of Asia ex-Japan Fixed Income and Portfolio Manager within the Asian Fixed Income team, responsible for managing strategies investing in the Asian credit, rates, and FX markets.
Andy Suen joined PineBridge in 2012 and is Senior Vice President, Co-Head of Asia ex-Japan Fixed Income and Portfolio Manager, responsible for portfolio management of Asia credit strategies as well as leading a team of research analysts focusing on the region’s issuers and trends.
PineBridge’s Asia fixed income team has been investing in the region since 1998, supported by established portfolio management, research, and trading teams based in Hong Kong and Singapore. With a more than 20-year track record managing Asian credit strategies, the industry-leading team currently manages over US$13.8 billion in assets across Asia ex-Japan fixed income strategies.1
